jump_detr - For the Pyro detonator

Hai, as the title says this is a map for Pyro detonator jumping.

I couldn't find any existing detonator maps so made this just for practising on (both in making maps and pyro jumping); posting it here in case other people want to have a try / give feedback so I can become a better jump map maker ;D

Hi! jump_detr has been updated with VScript support - the red course (rocket reflecting) can now be played offline without any server mod dependencies. The full list of changes is below:

  • Added VScript implementation for spawning a detonator, health regen, ammo regen and red course rocket spawns. This change means the map now works completely on client side
  • Added button to spawn for enabling regen + receiving detonator
  • Fixed some models reporting vphysics errors in console
  • Added resupply cabinet to spawn
  • Removed resupply areas throughout map (no more cabinet sounds everywhere)

The map is no longer hosted on dropbox - the download can now be found on the steam workshop: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3049497105

Hello again, updating this post with latest map download links / the current state of the map.
  • All jumps have been updated to work with changes made to the detonator (ages ago) which gave it a slightly more powerful jump.
  • A red team course has been added for rocket jumping but only works server-side (with a custom rocket-spawning plugin).
  • There may be more secret jumps who knows

Server details and changelog can be found on the steam group. Server is hosted in Australia.

I enjoyed playing this map. It looks great and is easy to follow. A and B were fun. C felt like hell, but was a good challenge. I dont fully understand the timing of detonator jumping, so C1 was hard enough for me. There's a jump on C where you strafe, land on a tiny block, and jump onto a platform (I forget the number). The tele seems to be in a bad location. I went back to the previous jump countless times.

Anyways, great map. I'd like to see more. 10/10 would bang.

Hi Senses, thanks for the feedback. :D Is this the jump you were referring to? Once I get the confirmation I'll upload an updated version (with a couple of extra fixes).

Yep, that's the one.

Any tips to the actual timing of detonator jumping? It took me a long time to finish the map.

I can't really say anything exact that you can do, but:
  • Try changing the delays between jump, crouch and shoot. Just experimenting might give you a better idea of how it works.
  • Since you've already finished the map you might be past that first point, so I guess it's just practise (noooo!).
  • You can hold down right click to detonate immediately after you shoot, which gives you a smaller jump
  • For the first C jump I found using the wall was easier than the floor (other people felt the opposite though)

Cool map, enjoyed it, not that hard (except C fucking 1), but you can't expect too much with the detonator.

Awesome map! Great change of pace from rocket jumping. I commend you for coming up with so many concepts to make det jumping interesting. If there's any problem I found it's the first little jump of C10.  I think you were going for a mini det pogo sort of thing but it's actually possible to just jump across the gap without hitting you head.  It's a minor thing and it takes nothing away from the map, just thought I'd let ya know.   :)

Thanks :D I'd forgotten about that jump, I'll definitely change it if a few more problems are found (or just sometime in the future if not).

C course has some regen missing.

I'm also too bad to do all the jumps.

You should take a look at jump_pyromaniac_a1. That map spawns rockets on local servers as well. No need for a plugin.
