Hello all. I made a decently easy soldier map over the course of a few weeks mainly to learn map making. I'm releasing the map as a beta and improving as I get feedback.

This is my first finished jump map and I have other ideas to start working on a much better jump map over the next few months, but for now I decided to put this out as it is to get feedback and improve, as this was my way of gaining experience, and I know there are some problems with it.

If you have any criticism about the map I'd be happy to take it and improve or edit the map if needed.

Thanks to Divide for testing the map and making the text image above.

Pretty cool for a start.  I would say some of the distances are a little bit wonky, but the main problem I found was that it's really unclear which surfaces are shootable and which are not.  I think it's very important to make that visually very obvious or people will get frustrated and confused about what a jump is supposed to be.

I don't suppose you could upload that to a site which doesn't alert my virus blocking software?

I've added a MediaFire link to the first post if that helps.

I think I see what you mean, but would it be more about visual textures or just general placement of the surfaces? I feel in some places I haven't made the exact direction obvious without attempting the jump blindly beforehand.

Yeah a little of both, but mostly the textures. At least from what I recall there didn't seem to be a consistent texture theme for what you can shoot and what you can't.  If you can correct that, it will help with not knowing where to go, since people will see what they can't do right off the bat.

I'm not sure if it isn't noticeable enough with the very similar textures, but throughout making it I tried to keep red wood to shoot-able surfaces and surfaces generally related to making the jump. I used a darker contrast brown wood for the surfaces that you'll be reset on, usually being the very bottom ground. I can understand if they were too similar though, as they are all wood textures with very similar images on each.

Ok, playing through again, I can see the theme.  It was probably partially me being colorblind, but yeah it's a lot of wood everywhere.
