So after getting voted off when I was close to the end of rvr at ~2hrs in I had an idea. When the map vote comes around, people that have been in a run for a certain amount of time, eg 1hr+, get double voting power. So (for example) when they push 6 to extend it counts for 2 votes. Of course this would be pointless on easy maps, so perhaps just for classes that are on a map that is t5-6 for them. It's really really frustrating when random people join the server and vote for 4starters or something on the advanced server, and this would help alleviate that.

Edit: forgot to mention this would just be for the map vote, not rtvs.

sry but if it takes that long then it's irrelevant and u shouldnt be able to force a server to stay on the map just cause u wanna finish ur day long "run". practice more and try for something faster. unless ur playin sync or squared theres no excuse.

I'm going to guess something like this has never happened to you before from your response.

This wouldn't stop the entire server from voting off; this would be meant to stop a couple of people(and usually its unrankeds joining the advanced server) from voting you off after you've been alone or with one or two other people on the server for a while. If there's say 10 people on the server then the extra vote would rarely do anything, but if there were 3 people, you could at least put it to a tie-breaker. If there's more than one person in an hr+ run then shouldn't it be fair for them to be able to have more say in if they finish their run, or at least have a higher chance to extend until they give up. Also, have you ever played rvr? Taking ~2hrs to do c1 and most c2 for the first or 2nd time is entirely reasonable imo. Just because you think people shouldn't keep trying to beat a map for a long time unless it's sync or squared doesn't mean anything, there's plenty of extremely difficult maps that take a long time to beat.

mad cos bad (and slow)

If there should be any greater vote power it should only be for rank 10 and up players who have more skill/dedicated more time to playing on the server. 8)

Since a bunch of you are shooting down the idea, how about giving some reasons on why you think it's not a good idea rather than 'lol go faster kid'. If you're going to stop before you get into such a long run or you're not even going to attempt one than this would hardly be noticeable to you, and it wouldn't have a huge impact to begin with. Some people will go onto a difficult map and try to beat it for a long time (there's your sync and squared as well). If it's on an easy map then yes, you just need to go faster, but when it's on some of the hardest maps sometimes that just isn't an option.

Forgot to say I was just thinking about this for the map vote, not rtvs. It wouldn't stop people rtving, if enough people want to rtv the extra vote probably won't make a difference, it would be aimed towards people doing runs with only a few people on the server. Also, practicing offline can help but server ping makes a huge difference.

So voting power is something I'm very cautious about, but I can certainly understand the frustration of runs being cut off. I've had plenty of suggestions of voting power based on rank, time on server, time on run, donations etc. So far this, with time on a current run, seems the most valid/fair. However, I'm still not sure how much we want to head down that road.

One thing to note is that I probably wouldn't factor in map difficulty. If someone is trying their hardest on a T6 or a T2 map I don't think we can punish one over the other.

That being said, the current plan is to setup the advanced servers to be more lenient with longer extends, and fewer past maps cut off due to recently played. However, this need some more work on the timer to be implemented properly.

I'd be keen to hear more of what other people think, I'm really not sure about this one.

My thoughts
Votings based on

Ranks = cocky people become cocky people with power
Time on server = don't want a spectator who isn't running to ruin runs
Time on runs = same thing with the above if you idle with the timer on. Can be useful if power increases with each checkpoint on the map?
Donations = donations should be from the heart and not pay-to-grind maps for hours

I say longer extends on advance servers :]
