I feel like complaints about shit/gimmicky/boring maps only exist because of the presence of a point system. These complaints arise due to a fear of missing out (on points)... right? If Tempus only showed run times and didn't allocate points for completion/records/tt's, I feel like no one would care enough to post on forums and push for changes to the map pool. At most we'd have people complain about a shitty map while on a server. In a point-free system, nothing is 'lost' if you choose not to run a particular map.
Gorge's counterargument that "Tempus is meant to be a server you go on to speedrun a map of your choice" is true but doesn't set the complete picture because of the existence of points and a leaderboard. Some players run maps they don't necessarily enjoy for the sake of completion or points (don't forget bonus grinding). Others perceive this as rat-like, or they are impacted by it because they are unable to play a 'proper' map.
Now that I think about it, a point-free system does sound pretty nice. You could have Number of records and maybe Number of 2nd/3rd/.../10th place times instead of a point system which for some reason combines speed and completion. I mean, if Tempus is indeed a server where you speedrun a map of your choice, why have any emphasis on completion at all? You could still record completion of course, for those who care about it and perhaps to dictate who can play/vote on rank restricted servers. But why was it clumped together with speed in the first place?
