Most of your prolly didn't know, but the speedrun strat on the easy course of annex_v5, that allowed you to stick your head through the ceiling of jump 3 and teleport to jump 8, was removed since the Tempus plugin moves the teleport up by a tiny bit.

In my opinion, this is a little over the top. Removing doors and breakables for smoother jumping, fine.
But completely deleting a strat from a map just because skipping a certain amount of levels is considerd "too much"?

I feel like we should not mess with the way mappers made their maps. If they made a mistake and didn't realise it, we should be allowed to abuse it to get faster times. And nobody can really say when a strat is too powerful to be removed.

So I'll just make this poll to see what other people think, should we actually change the way maps are made, just because they have a really funky speedrun strat?

Didn't even know that strat was on annex_v5. I know it exists on tissue, rnc_a1, and tholos. I need to crouch spam more it seems.

But more to the point this is like basically every other strat, only people that know about it can use it. If they can use it they can do it offline. Offline runs are still legal, so blocking it online doesn't really do much of anything.

And the standard speedrunning rule still applies, if these strats are removed or kept the best people will still get the best times regardless.

I say keep them in.

I don't see any reason to remove things from peoples maps. either way the runs would be fair. as far as the end zones go, who gives a shit? its all the same for everybody.

I say keep it.

and because i know i'll get some shit from somebody for being a "hypocrite", but anyway to detect client side freeze glitching other than stv's would be cool. idk if that's possible though. i know im not the only person that's made that mistake.

I want all the walls that get in my way to be removed and the pagoda level select to be put back in. After all it is the mappers mistake to put a level select at the start.

People already go through the map getting rid of the walls that don't regen, so might as well do that. As for the pagoda tele room, it doesn't have any relevance to the thread because it's something that was specifically designed to choose what level you want to go to, same with jump_edgebug or jump_volcanic. The difference is that on annex you can skip a certain portion of the map regardless of a tele room existing.

Just so people are aware of our original intentions, we removed this annex shortcut and ones on other maps that we feel skip too much of the map. Another example of this is propel_fixed_v2. After shooting a button, and waiting a certain time, at least a 1/3 or something of the map can be skipped.

The other thing to consider is when these 'glitches' go against jumpers. Vendetta, Adventure, Glow and many other maps have teleports that send you back several jumps. We have removed these just as with propel and annex, to try make playing the map a better and more consistent experience.

It's going to be hard to set a standard for when we mess with teleporters, but so far anything that sends you backwards, or sends you forward more than 4 or 5 jumps has been removed. Hopefully we have shown we are flexible to change so would be good to hear others opinions.

Imo, stuff shat send you back can be removed, I doubt anyone has a problem with that, but stuff for example the propel "trick" should be removed I think. It doesnt require any skill. But the teleport skip on annex does.
If you have a list, maybe we can go over it and decide what stays and what goes. And there might be stuff you forgot.

I think that actually changing the strats on a map is going too far.  Removing breakables and such only makes sense because people can abuse them only on an online server but not on an offline server.  However, there isn't really a point in removing strats.  It doesn't exactly accomplish anything other than make the gap between a tempus speedrun and an offline speedrun larger.

Propel has now been updated to v3.

Seems like a clear majority want the shortcut in, so Annex 3->8 skip is back.

If you're looking for consistency then the answer will always be to take the simplest path. That means you get involved as little as possible in the way maps are played.

That basically assumes that all map makers consistent with each other, I think that's far from the case. But I do get your point of limiting our involvement.
