What about this? Just release the TAS to the public, if we start seeing newbies doing impossible runs or people post obvious TAS videos pretending to be legit runs. We'll call them fags, make pointless shit posts and threads about it and then move on, like we always do.

It doesn't matter because guyyst will analyse the pain markers for us any way, so we know if runs are TAS or not

If an undetectable TAS plugin ever propagates out into the community, I'd just quit everything I do related to jumping. Ruins everything in my eyes. I wouldn't be able to tell if a trickjump or speedrun someone submits is real or fake. Every video with something insane that someone tries to pass off as legit will be questioned, and if there will be no way to prove if it was legit or not, I'm done.

You guys are naive if you think it would not get abused. I won't name names, but even top jumpers who are really good have done shady shit.

Edit: Actually I'll name one because it's well known already. Raiin's fake pagoda/aridia speedruns. 77k views on his pagoda run and unaware people think it's legit. This piece of shit deleted every comment calling him out. You guys are okay with shit like this? Because that's what will happen. Pretty fucking lame.

To add to that Raiin's runs weren't done with a tas plugin, just clever editing. So making this kind of thing public would just make it that much easier.

As long as TAS runs stay completely impossible and bat shit crazy, then it's all just for fun, which is great. And now that we have many examples of these crazy runs no one will ever believe anything close to one of these runs. The only reason casual was able to sorta get away with it was because the idea of a tas plugin for tf2 was the dream of a mad man at the time.

sounds like a question of if the tf2 jump community has enough ethics to not go so far off the deep end to ruin jumping for others

i *want* to believe that the community does respect itself enough not to be fucking retarded but who knows maybe all the memers have brought with them legit assholes

If an undetectable TAS plugin ever propagates out into the community

The undetectable part is the key really.  TAS is definitely interesting for its possibilities, less grinding meaning more and cooler stuff to see; but if you can't trust offline runs or jumps, then legit solo trickjumping becomes meaningless, and speedrun records will have to be restricted to Tempus, which isn't accessible to or feasible for everyone (which is even assuming that Tempus would be immune from the plugin).

Maybe you're right. I'm just so used to communities where everything can be verified by streaming. I guess that just doesnt work for jumping.

Glow said it perfectly. Even a lot of the top jumpers have done shady shit, who's to say even they wouldn't abuse it?
It maybe be identifiable, zig, but it takes a lot of time and you have to look at every run carefully. Nobody wants to do that..

Someone also said if a newbie jumper gets really good, they would probably be TAS'ing (assuming we allowed TAS to the public). What about the "newbie" jumpers who get good? We can't assume every jumper who isn't top-of-the-line won't become a top-of-the-line jumper in the future and if they do it's because of TAS. Sure, it has a lot of positive side effects, but the negative outweighs the positive by a large amount.

The only thing I really see it doing any good is showcasing maps. Yeah you can argue that showing nearly impossible shit is also cool, but that defeats the purpose of being an actual "good" jumper. Sure that's cool, but it should only be in the hands of those trustworthy, and like I said that is a VERY small group of people in this community.

Go ahead and keep arguing about the positive side of TAS, but we all know why some of you really want it, and we all know it wouldn't be good for the community.
