While interesting if it were possible to release it in the same time frame as the maps for Beginnings 3, it seems better to dedicate a thread to discuss how things may work out.

In short, it has been a unanimous opinion of most of us here on jump.tf that the current bootcamp map for JA is inadequate and not representative of many jumps encountered in the full maps released by our mapmakers here (no offense, Christoffer).  Yet having such a common map for new jumpers to first encounter and practice on in a JA server is a rather important part of community to improve on.

So here I am reaching out to all the talented mapmakers of jump.tf.  Please help us out in creating a decent/fantastic/dank/memeific/fun training map for the good of all that is jumping.

I would prefer if a collab map were possible, so that it can represent the talents of the many jump.tf mapmakers and help show off what it really means to be tune with jump.tf.

It does not have to look like a bootcamp in the way the jump_academy_easy map looks, but the difficulty ramp should be as smooth as possible while having increasingly variety and a need for creativity in solving.  It might not be easy, but it may be a possibly worthwhile endeavor.

this is certainly possible without a deadline until we meet the minimum jump requirements

i.e. min 20 jumps before a deadline gets pushed and anything after the deadline may or may not be in the map due to curve issues

In the event the number of jumps needed to handle the variety of jump skills exceeds the capacity of Hammer, we would be fine splitting it into a map rotation of smaller bootcamp maps dedicated to a different subset of skills.

Maybe assign people to make a certain type of jump to avoid similar jumps.

ex: person 1 makes varies types of syncs jumps
 person 2 does strafing etc

That sounds nice, but I would also like the possibility of sampling jumps from existing jump maps.  The analogy in a real teaching scenario is that having these jumps show up in the training map are like homework questions that sometimes show up in the exam (the full maps).

You're gonna need some organization if you want a good difficulty scale, if you want more than one person making each sort of jump make sure you get the people doing it to talk with each other.

We need a group of mappers dedicated to making this map or maps who can meet regularly and come up with ideas. This should be an actual good map, one that's fun to play, smooth, and sets realistic goals for new and semi-experienced jumpers. I think the original JA map did some things right such as the Ctap area, the freestyle spawn area, and specific courses such as sync, pogo, wallclimb, etc.. They just didn't execute making the jumps good and smooth.

the issue with meeting up is that everyone is in every timezone ever so it wouldn't really work well enough to have regular meetings

you don't have logs for irc unless you're connected (or if you have a bnc) and google docs makes it difficult to see who's chatting

there's always discord

I can look into setting up a server instance running Apache Wave (formerly Google Wave), if anybody remembers that.  Here's a screenshot of it in action, for those new to it:

Well we could make it so whatever each person says is a certain color if we use google docs...wave seems good too

I'd love to help!

If I can, at least. I'm not exactly a seasoned jumper/mapper.

"Yeah, finally another sync jump! I only did syncs for like 50 minutes straight now -.-"

Well, I'm not a huge fan of splitting the whole map into the different types of jumps. How about putting in short tutorial courses (like 5 jumps per jump type) next to some varied courses where you have to combine these techniques (plus some extra elements like surf, shotgun, etc)?
