Commentary was better in the year before last I think. I liked it when afterglow and the other guys explained how the jumps and techniques work and whats tricky about them.
Most of the guys who watch toth don't know shit about jumping, they mostly don't have a clue whats even going on on the screen. Especially when there are bounces, bhops, wallbugs, speedshots and other engine abuse based things. Looks completely random to someone who isn't into jumping.
Yea, I also remember 2014 toth being better commentary wise.
I helped host in 2013, can't remember if it was the jump or surf segment but cbear was also in on the stream. I remember it working well to have someone a little more versed in streaming/podcasts since he kept the conversation going and was able to ask questions that the viewers probably had in mind. So either having someone step up to be the main host (someone who isn't actually jumping) or bringing in someone else with casting experience would be helpful.
Yea, having a co-host like cbear or getawhale preferably (because he is a noobish jumper himself so he'll know the right questions to ask and he also knows the jumpers because he co-hosted with them a few times) to ask the jumpers questions that are raised in chat or even prepared before hand would definitely help, but the thing is we need someone co-operative and knowledgeable on the jumping side answering these questions in detail and developing discussions out of them while still being entertaining.
the jumping aspect was not newb-friendly which is what toth is supposed to be. let's change that this year. it might be boring for all of you guys out there, but it'll be great for those who haven't heard of jumping or people who want to start jumping but don't know how to.
Definitely agreed with the first paragraph, but regarding the 2nd one - making it newb-friendly doesn't mean it
has to be boring for the more experienced jumpers as well, quite the contrary actually because when you think about it talking about actual jumping is a lot better than the regular hosts having boring small talks, also the discussions that develop from noobish questions could be interesting for experienced jumpers as well (to me personally it is interesting to hear different perspectives and opinions about jumping stuff). Just an example from toth 2014:
on 26:28 (if it didn't start there automatically)
I believe it's exco initiating a jumping scripts discussion and a bit after that they talk about beginnings '14; the maps that were created for it, the combined effort to do an event like that and they even get to the jumping community in general and the origins of it.
So yea, I do believe good hosts can make it interesting for all levels of jumpers.
