Easy/popular maps like beef/elephant done jump by jump with explanations, then re-ran as a speedrun might work for that.

I helped host in 2013, can't remember if it was the jump or surf segment but cbear was also in on the stream. I remember it working well to have someone a little more versed in streaming/podcasts since he kept the conversation going and was able to ask questions that the viewers probably had in mind. So either having someone step up to be the main host (someone who isn't actually jumping) or bringing in someone else with casting experience would be helpful.

Personally I would like to see the addition of TAS (as it's becoming a pretty popular aspect of jumping), I think the idea of having someone work on a TAS throughout the segment then showcase it at the end is a good idea. Doing multiple TAS of the same map would be too repetitive though, either choose a single person to work on a run or have multiple people but only showcase whichever is fastest at the end.

Being more transparent on what's going to happen would be good as well. In past toth there hasn't been an overview of a possible schedule that people can discuss and suggest changes for on these forums. Also, there has been no definite list of who will be involved in each part outside of the people actually doing it.

While in the past having it all organized pretty much privately by AG, guyyst etc. worked fine now there are lots of top jumpers from all over the world so having an official toth organization thread or board that has events that will be on stream and the people in charge of and doing them would make for a much better jump segment.

Also I totally agree about needing a good host/s that knows about and can talk about the techniques involved.

Yeah I actually just skimmed over the 2015 segment and didn't realize there were still the regular hosts in on it. Planning out the schedule in advance is a good idea, and having one person in charge of covering the mechanics of jumping as they're shown, giving some background on the maps being played, etc., would be helpful to fill any silence. Is anyone currently working on who is going to showcase runs and on which maps?

.flac's post pretty much sums up my feelings.

It would definitely be helpful to have someone explaining techniques as they are done and go into the difficulty of some of them. Having someone there to answer any questions and comment on anything noteworthy etc would be good for encouraging more people to give jump a shot. Might mean an influx of Demos who don't know their stickies from their pipes joining the server and asking the person with the most colourful name to teach them how to airpogo, though.

I reckon there should be a good mix of easier maps that look good to speedrun, some well known maps like 4starters, and some harder ones that involve more complicated strats, T4-T5 maybe. Blind runs could be good as it shows the learning process of figuring out a level. Finding out which surfaces are shootable and what not.

Commentary was better in the year before last I think. I liked it when afterglow and the other guys explained how the jumps and techniques work and whats tricky about them.

Most of the guys who watch toth don't know shit about jumping, they mostly don't have a clue whats even going on on the screen. Especially when there are bounces, bhops, wallbugs, speedshots and other engine abuse based things. Looks completely random to someone who isn't into jumping.

Yea, I also remember 2014 toth being better commentary wise.

I helped host in 2013, can't remember if it was the jump or surf segment but cbear was also in on the stream. Yea, having a co-host like cbear or getawhale preferably (because he is a noobish jumper himself so he'll know the right questions to ask and he also knows the jumpers because he co-hosted with them a few times) to ask the jumpers questions that are raised in chat or even prepared before hand would definitely help, but the thing is we need someone co-operative and knowledgeable on the jumping side answering these questions in detail and developing discussions out of them while still being entertaining.

the jumping aspect was not newb-friendly which is what toth is supposed to be. let's change that this year. it might be boring for all of you guys out there, but it'll be great for those who haven't heard of jumping or people who want to start jumping but don't know how to.
Definitely agreed with the first paragraph, but regarding the 2nd one - making it newb-friendly doesn't mean it has to be boring for the more experienced jumpers as well, quite the contrary actually because when you think about it talking about actual jumping is a lot better than the regular hosts having boring small talks, also the discussions that develop from noobish questions could be interesting for experienced jumpers as well (to me personally it is interesting to hear different perspectives and opinions about jumping stuff). Just an example from toth 2014:
on 26:28 (if it didn't start there automatically)
I believe it's exco initiating a jumping scripts discussion and a bit after that they talk about beginnings '14; the maps that were created for it, the combined effort to do an event like that and they even get to the jumping community in general and the origins of it.
So yea, I do believe good hosts can make it interesting for all levels of jumpers.

i said it might be, which in for majority of jumpers it probably will be if we take a look at our community as a whole and we can see how many memers we actually have. of course we can try to make it interesting for everyone but the focus should be interesting for new jumpers rather than old if we want the community to grow (bc old jumpers will stay just look at vexon)

I personally find myself returning to the toth vods every once in a while (maybe it's just me, but I thought other jumpers did as well) and it's always fun to watch, besides the parts where there is nothing to say and the casters start small talks and try to be funny though, so if most of the time the commentary would be jumping related I think it'll be the most interesting for the most amount of people (keep in mind it shouldn't be way too informative and or even informative at all sometimes - it could just be casual and simple live commentary solely about the gameplay every once in a while). But yea ofc the focus should be on explaining stuff in a basic manner for the viewers, exco did it pretty well back in 2014 and I even still find it fun to watch nowadays every once in a while, idk if exco is still active or anything but if he wanted to host I would def vouch for him.
