Recently a Soldier map WR was beaten with significant time saved by having another player shoot buttons, where the previous record beat the jumps normally.
While this can randomly occur if another player is attempting the jump, there is a distinction between this and when someone actively and repeatedly shoots buttons for a player. This compromises the integrity of runs, and forces other players to mimic this behaviour in order to compete on certain maps.

Should button cheating as Soldier be punished? Post your opinions.

if someone accidentally button cheats and saves time and then it's unbeatable (or very difficult to beat) w/o button cheating what happens?

exactly the problem. tbh we're in too deep at this point, the amount of times that have button cheating in them is too high to realistically punish them all. ideally, yes they should be punished, and ideally every button jump would filter players that had shot buttons themselves and only let them through, but this isn't the case.

what if button cheating got punished and you had a run where someone else was doing the jump and shoots the buttons for you? would you still get punished even though you didn't intentionally button cheat? or would your time be allowed and now other players have to get player rng to have someone else doing the jump when they get there.

then the problem becomes how can you tell the difference between them getting lucky and them having someone there doing the jump for them. maybe i just felt like doing the same jump over and over while this other person happened to be running. or maybe i felt like practicing my aim on these buttons. what if i alt as hugo.gonzales2004 and help someone button cheat. the admins would have to checking every run on maps with buttons constantly.

best just to leave it alone. button cheating is necessary to wr as demo on a bunch of maps, i don't see why soldier should get special treatment. with other people on the server button cheating will happen, intentional or not.

It's very clear when someone is getting help button cheating or not, the only reason it helps is because instead of shooting them yourself you use the extra rocket(s) to save time (with very few exceptions like the beef course doors). If someone shoots the buttons for you but you take out the shotgun yourself to shoot them (thus you're getting button "help") you're not gaining any time, I think a pretty clear distinction can be made.

buttons are bad but ok i guess for soldier that's fair. for demo i think button cheating should remain  because hitting them with stickies is Shit

Agree with kaptain, you'll only save time if you know you're gonna get button help, otherwise you'll just pull out your shotgun and if someone "acciendtly" shot the buttons before you it won't impact your time.

fast forward months from now when people only run certain maps when it's on a populated server so they can try and get lucky button rng oh boy that'll be epic

Depending on the map you can see whether the button has already been shot or will be shot at the right time and you have time to react and not take out the shotgun.

Honestly buttons aren't made for online play anyways. I think it's bad if it is used for WRs and TTs, but this would also be somewhat hard to monitor.

PS: just dont make buttons jumps in your maps

+1 for removing all buttons. Doors always opened.

What's the soldier map we're talking about?

Although I voted against button cheating, I feel that there needs to be exceptions. I'm not sure if the "aye" bonus on ddpls counts, but I haven't seen a single solly completion without having someone spam that trigger. Or would the button cheating rule only count for maps where most people have done it legit?
