Hey everybody, it's almost toth map collaborating time!!

This time around, I wanted to try something a bit different with the types of jumps in the map. I think it would be entertaining to watch people play a map comprised entirely of (soldier) strafing or movement based jumps, or even some well crafted (soldier) gimmick jumps. I want to avoid anything to do with bhops or stairs, as those don't tend to include the fun mechanics of jumping.

Here are some mediocre examples (some of these are a bit iffy, but you get the idea)

Ideally the map would still be easy to follow and easy for the runners to understand, so the difficulty and length of the jumps should be kept to a reasonable level.  One other important thing for these types of jumps is to minimise randomness where possible, as it should be completable consistently by good jumpers.

Of course, I understand some people might want to do a normal soldier/demo collab map, which is why this thread exists. Please give me your opinion about the toth collab map either through a poll vote, or in a post here. The poll will be up for 7 days, so get in while it's hot!!

im so torn, bc on one hand, movement like that can be rlly cool to watch but on the other hand, i feel like its not as impressive to the average player & it could get boring. maybe a mix of normal jumps and more movement based and gimmicky?

people see lots of strafing in surf would it be impressive to see it in jump too? gimmicks would be better if not a normal map

Yep, fair points. I think the intersection of movement based levels and regular jumping mechanics is the sweet spot to aim for. If the jumps are fast paced I think that will make it more entertaining too

Gimmicks are certainly on the table, and I do think jumping can provide a unique spin to strafing/movement levels that surf can't. Overall the segment will not be short on impressive jumps, but i get where youre coming from.

Personally I would love to see some tf2 heavy pumpkin jumping

To be honest, I don't really think that a strafe based map would really represent jumping well, or would be fun to watch for people who came to see rocket jumps. So in my opinion a more normal map would be the best for a toth collab.
Gimmicks could be fine as long as they are rocket/ demo jumping at the core.

As far as "fun and gimmicky" goes the Beggar's Bazooka is pretty unexplored territory as well. And i believe the "Air strike" maps havent been shown or are otherwise unknown to the TotH audience as well.

I think that the gimmicky map would be cool for a map but not for a ToTH race. People watch the race to see top jumpers do amazing challenging jumps with little to no preparation.

I feel like most people watch the jump segment specifically for rocket/sticky jumping and this idea would have less of that. In other words it would feel more like a strafe/surf map with the ability to rocket jump which is less impressive than a proper jump map. I think out of all the TOTHs I've been in, people liked jump_4friends the most ("generic" collab maps weren't that fun to watch and jump_party was way too confusing to an average viewer). In general people enjoy watching hard maps getting destroyed by good jumpers or some sick coop maps more than some easy stuff.

Honestly i think a gimmick map would be a really good idea as long as its not just strafey bonus types jumps (some would be fine) and i dont think showcasing it with a race.  Races are just really unfun to watch imo because theres always camera trouble.

I'm all for new things and I believe after all those years the audience we have, wich is the same year after year for the most part, feel the same way.

This is 1 showcase/race of 5 to 10min in a 2hour segment...rest of the segment will be standard classic jumping and this would be a 10min of something we have never done or showcase before.

I could be wrong but I feel it's the cool new stuff, along with impressive display of skills, that both gets the viewer to come back, not the 10th jump_soar race that people have seen enough of.

I think we could make a good mix between movement bonuses type jumps and gimmick jumps to showcase something interesting to watch in the middle of a jumping segment.
