Alright some of you would have seen and played on a US server that we just set-up to test some logistics. The IP of this server most likely will change, and the server itself is broken in many ways. I'll be doing a proper post later when the actual server is up and going, and its details.
@talkingmelon, yes we realise RTV is broken. We are still trying to narrow down the cause of it, hopefully we'll get it resolved soon.
With a US server hopefully coming up shortly, I figure it's a good time to do post our thoughts behind bonuses, and why we have set them up separately:
- !mapinfo to show # of bonuses - currently looking at any map can tell you how many bonuses there are, myself and others have found this very useful. If we combined bonuses, the !mapinfo would currently show 1 bonus instead of the actual count
- !b X command - Seperate bonuses means players can teleport to any bonus they like (eg. !b 2) and set a time
- Bonuses aren't for speedrunning - We feel that maps and courses are the place for real speedrunning. Bonus are exactly what they are called, bonuses, or extra little side jumps for fun. If you treat them like runs and try get #1 in all of them, you aren't going to have fun. Instead they are fun side jumps, which offer very few points, even in the top 10 ranks
- 50% of maps with bonuses, only have 1 bonus - I find the argument that people don't want to run single jumps, and instead want them linked pretty much flawed with about 50% of them being a single jump only. We figured we may as well make it consistent then across the map, and keep bonuses seperate
Points 1 and 2 could be fixed, but would require a reasonable reworking of the current system. We feel there are more important features to be spending our time on that making these changes. The feedback we have gotten in the AU test server is that people enjoy the individual bonuses, the convenience of teleporting to them, and generally don't take them too seriously.
I hope this clears things up, and keep an eye out for news about the next test server!
