General Discussion / Beginnings 2013 point system revision?
« on: November 30, 2013, 06:59:19 PM »
It's fairly obvious the point system is flawed. As it is, first place gets 100 points and then for each subsequent place, a person gets one less point until 0. But this basically means that if one doesn't do a run, they'll have no chance of winning (e.g. a person who gets 1st in 4 maps will lose to a person who gets 15th in 5). I can't seem to come up with a good solution to a new point system, if a new one is desired at all.

I thought about things like... adding a player's times then dividing by the their number of runs, so the person who has lowest time wins. But then there may be a map that takes a lot less time than the rest so a person speedrunning that map and only that map might win it all. Or scaling it differently so that 1st place gives 10 points, 2nd gives 9..., 10th gives 1, 11 or later gets 0. But this still has the same problem where a person who doesn't run at least once can be severely set back, though not as much as the 100 point scale.

Beginnings 2013 Small | Large

Beginnings 2013 is the TF2RJweekly 1 year anniversary jump tournament.

It will be 6 weeks long and have 6 stages, each lasting a week. Every week a new demo and soldier map will be released that no one has ever played before. Players will have one week to get the fastest speedrun they can and submit their STV+POV demos (note: it has to be both if possible, we need it for editing. One or the other will be okay though if you don't think you'll place highly). Rankings of the results of a stage will be posted a week after the stage, giving us enough time to watch all the demos and and edit a highlight reel and such.

Account to donate to for prize pool: http://bit.ly/1hUAHbA
Beginnings Hiscores/Donations Sheet: http://bit.ly/HPg5TX

Six stages:
There will be 1 warm-up stage and 5 actual stages. The warm-up stage is exactly that; a stage at the start which should still be competitive, but not affect the tourney results. The subsequent 5 stages will matter equally. The maps will be more and more difficult as the stages go on (so easiest map in stage 1, hardest map in stage 6).

Tentative Schedule:
Saturday Nov 9th - Stage 1 starts
Saturday Nov 16th 12:00 pm EST / 17:00 GMT - Stage 1 ends, stage 2 starts
Saturday Nov 23th 12:00 pm EST / 17:00 GMT - Stage 2 ends, stage 3 starts
Saturday Nov 30th 12:00 pm EST / 17:00 GMT - Stage 3 ends, stage 4 starts
Saturday Dec 7th 12:00 pm EST / 17:00 GMT - Stage 4 ends, stage 5 starts
Saturday Dec 14th 12:00 pm EST / 17:00 GMT - Stage 5 ends, stage 6 starts
Saturday Dec 21th 12:00 pm EST / 17:00 GMT - Stage 6 ends

Scoring system:
Each map will be weighted equally. 1st place at a stage gives 100 points while 1000st place gives 1 point. So a person who gets first in all 6 maps of the demo or soldier category will have 500 points (remember, the warm-up stage doesn’t contribute to one’s points).

Prizes:
There will be tf2 items for top place of each stage for soldier and demo (including the warm-up stage), and of course prizes for overall top finishers. I haven't worked out the exact prize pool breakdown yet, but the majority of the prize pot will go towards the overall results (not individual stage finishes). Please consider donating to make this aspect of the tournament a success.

The 12 maps:
The 12 maps will have Drexen's timer to be compatible with offline speedrunning. They'll also have skillsranks timers so you can speedrun online as well. Map makers will be eligible to participate in the tourney but they won’t receive points for their map. Instead the warm up map will be the one that counts for them (unless they made the warm-up map, obviously).

General Discussion / stream
« on: September 22, 2013, 03:47:30 PM »
I've started to stream. The quality isn't the greatest (480p) but it's watchable nonetheless. I'll be streaming jumping obviously.

Whenever I stream, I'll make an announcement for that steam group. Best way to let people know. Shoutout to rob123 for the idea.

General Discussion / Unused JOTWS

UNUSED JOTWS FROM TF2RJWEEKLY

PSA: WHEN SUBMITTING TO US, PLEASE TRY TO INCLUDE BOTH THE STV AND POVS

From now on, we'll release a video like this announcing a demo pack of unused JOTWS from the previous month, since otherwise they're going to go completely unused. And rather than spoil the jumps by showing them all, we've only shown snippets of them.

Spread it around to your editor buddies and email us your edits! If they're not completely awful we'll slap em up on the channel.

General Discussion / Jump map difficulty ranking
« on: July 10, 2013, 11:36:24 PM »
Jump map ranking I drafted up. These are made with the consideration of speedrunning them which is why bigbutt is in the hard section for example, even though it could be in the beginner part. Within the categories they're ranked from easiest to hardest (i.e. in the pro soldier section, squared is lower than sync since it's harder). So you can think of the lists as one big chain of maps ranked from easiest to hardest.

I know I'm missing maps so suggest them and where they should go. And I know ppl will prolly disagree with some of my rankings, just lay it on me.

The c's refer to courses (i.e. c1 = course 1). Also, when I say full I mean without bonuses.

General Discussion / Democall
« on: June 04, 2013, 06:02:56 PM »
Hi I'm looking to make another jump clip/movie, about 2-3 minutes long this time with jumps from other people. Only 1 jump per person plz, and no team jumps or gimmicky jumps (like the caber/targe/loose cannon crap). I'm looking for high quality jumps, if it's something I can do in like 10 minutes forget it (Or cool-looking/creative jumps if you can't do hard ones). Unoriginal jumps like levels done their intended way won't be used for sure. I would use unused jotws again but they're pretty boring tbh. And I'd rather not flood the tf2rjweekly channel with my random edits. PLEASE INCLUDE AN STV DEMO ALSO.

PM the dl link to the demos on tf2jump or msg me on steam. No deadline as of yet.

Thanks, hopefully I get enough demos... For reference, chromophobia had only 7 jumps and that's 2:30 in length, so it's really not a lot of jumps I'm looking for.
