General Discussion / Collab 2
« on: October 28, 2013, 01:10:14 PM »
Hey!

So there's been a while since jump_collab was released and I've been thinking about starting up a second, and now there seem to be some interest in it.

The process would be similiar to last time, as in creating jumps and sending them to Drexen. But it's prolly not going to be a competition (ie no moneys since I'm poor), just a genuine work-together-kinda thing.

I was thinking it to be another soldier map, but maybe an alternative demo course could be made if you guys should want to make a map for demos. Old unused jumps will likely be fine to send, but imo they should be somewhat detailed or polished in design.

Anyway, if there's enough of you interested I'll start this up more serious and we'll make a map. So go ahead and post in this thread if you want to make a few jumps or have an opinion about how this collab should be done. Ciao!

General Discussion / Map competition
« on: September 10, 2012, 04:27:08 AM »
So I'm thinking of starting another map comp of some sort, this time it will be a freestyle theme. I'm kind of into the whole collaboration style of work, but I'm not sure how well it would play out with a freestyle map. Still I'm prefering to have it collaby because then it will be, hopefully, one awesome map instead of x number of halfarsed ones. Then again it will be hard to decide who's the winner. Seing as you would probaly just have made a certain part of the map and the quality of it would depend on a number of things, like what the parts around it are like, where it's placed.

I think the best way for the competition to be collaby is if it could be like minecraft, you go in a server and work on your section of the map and then it will be probaly be a more dynamic map as you could see what the others are doing and adapt your section to it. But then, this isn't Minecraft and the only way I can see it work something like that is if the map is passad around, which would be cool, but probaly a real pain after a while. Like you could have the map for a certain amount of time, pass it to the next person who will work on it and so forth. Anyway, this passing around way of creating a map has been discussed before and I haven't really seen any real benefits in it. But with a freestyle map it would be a bit different, as your section is dependent on others.

Anyway, I could go on for a bit with this without coming to any conclusion. I'm thinking of options for this comp, here are a few:

Every contestant make their own map, prizing will be similiar to the collab-comp.

Every contestant make a section of the map, prizing will go to individuals based on something, like which section of the map is most played or used for jumps. Or just voted for.

Contestants make a section of the map, money either goes to JumpIt and Chillout or everyone who participate gets something.

We have an idea-box and everyone can contribute with ideas or even draw how parts of the map could look like, someone builds it (open tests on a regular basis for feedback etc). Prize... dunno.

Anyway, feel free to come up with own ideas how a comp like this would look like or how it could be done. I'm not saying I will really make something out of this, but as usual if people seem interested then maybe :) Also if someone want to co-host (ie throw some moneys lolol) this comp with me just say so ^^

General Discussion / Vote - jump_collab
« on: May 08, 2012, 11:35:59 AM »
First off - thanks again to all you who participated in this contest, who contributed with jumps! It seem to have turned out better than I hoped for. And a big thanks to Drexen who made my dirty work, ei putting all the jumps together and optimizing and stuffs. Perhaps I will do some similiar project in the future, or start a jump dump in which you could post unused jumps from unfinished projects and such, I'm pretty sure there're plenty of those.

Anyway, this is the voting thread for jump_collab, which you can download here if you haven't tried it yet. As you may know the prize pool for this contest is 40$. The winner gets 30$ and the second gets 10$. The ones who entered with two jumps will be able to win the whole prize pool if both his or hers jumps gets the most votes.

The manner of the voting will be like this: you vote for your favourite jump (favourite by design, detail, difficulty or whatever) by posting the name of the creator and if he/she did more than one jump you say the name and the number of the jump, counting from the left. Cranck made two jumps, so the entrance to the left is his jump 1, the one to the right is jump 2. Note that you can't vote for the bonus jumps, no matter how awesome they might be. Also, you can't vote for yourself. Sorry, mappers! :p

You can vote for four jumps. Your first choice will get 5 points, second will get 3 points, third gets 2 points and fourth gets 1 point. Your vote should look something like this like this.

1. Name (number of jump)
2. Enam (2)
3. Name (2)
4. Nema (1)

The list of participants that you can vote for:
Eleven
Bob
Wolny
X_Dias
Splee
Exile
Cranck
Zee
Sync
Dr.whooo
Wolsk

You can vote until 15th of may, that's when the winner(s) will be called.

If anything is unclear just write in this thread and I'll try to answer. Peace!

Edit:

Contest is over, Eleven's the winner. Both of his jumps scored the highest.

New Maps / Jump_collab (round 2)
« on: March 10, 2012, 10:21:05 AM »
OKAY! So now that there's a healthy number of peeps interested in this contest it's back on track. What is jump_collab, you ask. Jump_collab is the map we're making together (and by we I mean you guys). You create one or two jumps in sdk hammer and send them to Drexen(!+rep) who will be pasting this shizzle into one beautiful piece of heavenly, air-soaringly, no touchy-groundly jump map of awesome apple juice. Drexen says: The forum mail is probably the best way to enter yourself, i'll keep a list of everyone who entered jumps.

Now why would I do that, you ask. Because you can win moneys. The whole grand epicly total of 40$ is in the prize pool. Winner gets 30$, second gets 10$. I'll send the money to the winners through PayPal, so having an account there might be great.

Rules, I say:
  • The map is for soldier, so making solly jumps is prolly a good idea.
  • Deadline is 29th of april
  • You can enter with as many jumps you like, only 2 of them (you chose which ones) will be eligible for voting though, the rest will act as bonus jumps.
  • Both your jumps can win, one guy might win the whole prize pool if both his/hers jumps gets the most votes.
  • Detail it as much or little you want and in whatever manner, dev texture is fine.
  • Keep the size of the jump(s) within reason - don't make any jumps that cover half of the grid-map

There are no particular rules about the designs of the jumps. You make them as good as you can.

After the map's release there will be a vote for the jumps. The makers of the two jumps with most votes gets the money.

So far there's 14 interested:

Cranck

New Maps / The jump dump thread
« on: March 13, 2011, 11:55:08 AM »
Hola again, dear gents and ladies.

Even though I said that the map should be passed around it didn't seem to have that many benefits. It would be cool, sure, but it's also bound to mess up somewhere down the line. So letting one guy do the copy paste is probably for the best. Drexen (is credit to team) has agreed to glue the jumps together and we just post them here when we're done with them. Oh, and about the start/end corridor/tele, add neither, Drexen will do that.

So construct your jump the best you can, design it, texture it, test it, take it out for dinner and post only when you think it's good enough. You can prolly post the bsp before the vmf though and let others test it as well, if you're not sure about your jump.

Sorry if anyone really wanted the pass around thing, but there just didn't seem to be that many upsides, your jumps will still be the same. And the order of jumps can still be the same it would as if we had passed the map around (though that might not be a good idea).

Edit: There will be two courses. One demo and one solly. So do jumps for either of them, or for both.

General Discussion / Collab map
« on: March 10, 2011, 05:13:27 PM »
Was gonna write a long inspiring text here that would've made everyone super interested, but then I would have to take responsibility for it to actually happen so I'm just going to throw the idea out here instead. Also inspiring as my texts usually are, I'm mighty tired so it prolly would have been lame, kinda how it is now.

How about a collab map? Someone starts by creating a jump, send the map to the next guy and he adds another one and so forth. Maybe this is kind of what you dooodes did with jump_junk, but this time each one adds his textures and design the jump to his/her liking. Yes, the map will prolly be ugly as hell, but there are plenty of jump maps that already are on a level of their own when it comes to uglyness. coughONIONcough

Well, that's all of my not so inspiring text. Anyone up for it?
