So, I tried my hand at making a map and this was the result. It's a tier 1-2 soldier map. It's pretty bad, but I'm still looking for feedback so I can improve it. Any comments are appreciated.

Update: I finally got around to doing the lighting on the map. I also changed many of the textures so the map would have an overall theme. The main feedback I'm looking for is opinions on lighting but other feedback is appreciated. Thanks

There are missing textures in several parts of the map. If you are using custom textures you need to pack them into the map using VIDE or Pakrat. There are plenty of tutorials out there on how to use them. I am assuming that the Egypt themed section is supposed to have a skybox as the ceiling? If so, the texture you apply to it should be tools/toolsskybox (it's a light blue image with the word "skybox" on it). Also look into basic lighting, fullbright looks super ugly.

Another thing you should avoid doing is using the same textures for teleport surfaces and surfaces you can stand on. They need to be different so that it is obvious what you can and can't touch. It's also the same for walls you can and can't shoot, there should be an obvious difference.

You should also work on making maps have a certain theme or atmosphere, instead of just throwing different textures in everywhere. It makes the map feel more polished. Not many maps have drastically different themes for each jump.

Lastly, I can see that you have been using a grid size of 1 unit in hammer, which is not advised (unless making 1 unit teleport triggers obviously). You should keep the grid size at 16 or above in my opinion, it makes everything easier to align and keeps everything looking neat.

Not bad for a first map though, the jumps themselves work fine and are spaced okay. The main thing you need to work on is making your maps look nicer.

If you haven't checked out this post already I would recommend taking a look: http://jump.tf/forum/index.php/topic,956.0.html It has download links to a bunch of useful resources to help with mapping.

Very nice to see you detailed the map a lot. Only real complaint: it's too dark for most people prolly.

Thanks for the feedback. In the meantime I will try to make the lighting brighter.

Another lighting update. Made the map brighter and changed the light color. I'm probably gonna move on to other project in the meantime so this will probably be the last update for a while.

Some things I noticed, at the end of the map your props are slightly raised above the ground. On jump 6 the left side of the stage (as well as the trigger_teleport) is separated from the wall allowing you to just skip the whole level. You also have leaks in your map underneath the first level platforms. Apart from those, nice job!

Thanks, for the feedback. I've corrected the errors and I will release a new version at the end of the week unless more errors are discovered.
