I don't think you read his whole post, as the first style (his diagram, which is great) is generally accepted as the 'best' way to go, and the second half is regarding the question of W strafing, not advocating to always use it.  On jumps like the one shown in the video, a W based wallshot is completely fine, supposing you can adjust aim properly.

I think I'm having some trouble with the aim; when I'm trying to get from the start of jump 4 on jump_tholos to the other side I get close, but I don't make it. I have made it in the past, but I'm not consistent. Any tips?
